LemonSpeak
LemonSpeak was born one evening in Munich during a conversation with a friend of mine, Robert. As an avid podcast listener, I wanted to improve the podcast experience for listeners. This was before the hype surrounding LLMs and ChatGPT (at that point, ChatGPT didn't even exist yet). I launched LemonSpeak Solo. Over time, however, the focus shifted to podcasters. From the beginning, I wanted to bootstrap the product. As a solopreneur, however, you wear many hats: gathering feedback, market research, front-end and back-end development (the actual development of LemonSpeak), support, administrative tasks, and marketing. Marketing is and was by far the biggest challenge. Considering future developments in the podcasting sector, AI act in Europe, as well as competitor developments and the current number of customers on LemonSpeak, it didn't make sense for me to continue investing my resources in LemonSpeak.
I am very proud to have developed LemonSpeak. It has been a profitable business from the very beginning. Bootstrapping a product is not easy, and all the experience I have gained will go into my next product. Nevertheless, I was unable to push LemonSpeak's customer base beyond a certain threshold that would have allowed me to scale.
